Email client programs

Before jumping in to the topic for this post - which is my search for "thee" email client program for my Apple iBook, aka ~ "Genie," that does it for me.

I should probably mention my wife and I are celebrating our 34th Wedding Anniversary this weekend :)! We were married on June 25, 1972 at Anaheim Baptist Temple in Anaheim, California. My secret for a long marriage? "I may be the Boss, but she's in charge" :)!

Now, on to the topic for this post. On the PC side of the fence, my email client program of choice was IncrediMail. Naturally, IncrediMail is only written for Windows :(. On the Apple side of the fence, as is the case with over 60 percent of Apple users, I use Apple's included Mail.app email client program as I continue to search for the email client program, or application, that does it for me? I am keeping an eye on Kiwi, which has yet to be released. I have a hunch though, that it won't be exactly what I'm looking for, if even close? Yes, I've tried the likes of Tunderbird by Mozilla, among many others. I did come across an 'interesting' approach for an email client program when I stumbled upon Balzac. I often wonder if I'd been better off had I never discovered or used IncrediMail :(?

I'll continue the search, and keep my fingers crossed that someone eventually develops an email client program for Apple that includes stationary, sound and most importantly - emoticons :)! If you'd like to comment on this topic - please do.

Happy Father's Day

"Happy Father's Day" to all the Dads out there - past, present and future :)!

My second post here, so things appear to be moving right along. I'm so excited about the possibility of getting my 20 inch Intel Core Duo processor iMac between now and this September, here are the specifications for the one I have my eye on:

* 1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x512
* 250GB Serial ATA drive
* ATI Radeon X1600/256MB VRAM
* SuperDrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW)
* iWork '06 preinstalled
* Keyboard & Mighty Mouse + Mac OS X - U.S. English
* Accessory kit
* AppleCare Protection Plan for iMac - Auto-enroll
* 20-inch widescreen LCD
* 2GHz Intel Core Duo
* AirPort Extreme
* Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR

The wife is looking forward to this as well, as it will put me back in the "computer" room, freeing up her dining room table :). Ever since acquiring my iBook laptop computer in September '05, we have been a permanent fixture at the dining room table - lol! Speaking of my iBook, this is the first computer I've ever actually named! "Her" name is "Genie," which I arrived at based on the "G" in "G4." Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating people should 'name' their computers. I know some do, but most don't, and that's OK. I decided to name "Genie" due to the sheer amount of time I spend with 'her,' which aggravates the wife to no end, I might add :)?! No, aggravating the wife was, and is, Not my intention.

So, just what do I do with all these computers? Nothing extraordinary I'm afraid. Although someday, I'd like to learn programming in order to write a 'to die for' email client program, or possibly a nifty productive utility program of some kind :). I'm not into gaming, never have been really, although there was a time I enjoyed playing "Doom" and "Tetris." Basically, I blog of course, Message board post, Instant Message, email, online banking, google search 'stuff,' and experiment with new or updated application programs. I have this "text editor" addiction, I'm constantly searching for the perfect text editor! On my PC, I use UltraEdit-32, on my iBook, I primarily use "Smultron," but most recently, I've taken a fancy to "WriteRoom," which is a full screen, distraction free, writing environment. It's just me and what I'm writing, very cool. When I'm finished, I have to copy and paste in order to get what I've written into an application that will let me do something with it, but I was already doing that with 'other' text editors prior to WriteRoom. If you'd like to have a look see at WriteRoom or Smultron, both free of course, and you have an Apple, here are the links:

WriteRoom

Smultron

For those with PC's that would like to check out "UltraEdit-32," here's the link:

I suppose I should post this entry and prepare for the "Father's Day" festivities. Till next time, Take Care out there, be good to yourselves and each other.

Testing the waters

Ah, my first post :). I debated for some time whether to start this blog. I'm into, and interested in, computers, my passion really, which was the impetus to start this blog - an outlet for me to share and receive experiences, thoughts, wishes, dreams and anything computer related, be it hardware, software or what have you. My primary focus, since September of '05, is with Apple Macintosh, but I have had PC's, still do actually, starting with DOS and all iterations of Windows. Through the years I have "played" with the likes of BeOs, OS/2 and Unix (Linux). As already mentioned, my current focus is Apple and OS X.

I would really rather avoid the whole Apple, Windows, Linux debate as far as which platform is the best / worst. Lord knows there's more than enough of that to be found? In my mind, the important thing is that we compute, not so much what we compute with :)?! Having said that though, keep in mind the majority of my posts will most likely deal with the Apple Mac platform, for now at least. Make no mistake though, All computer posts are welcome, regardless of platform / Operating System :)!

I shall post this entry and see where this blog goes from here ... or not LOL?
